Omnipollo Fatamorgana IPA

Omnipolly is the brewery.  Fatamorgana is the name.  Crazy Europeans.  What does that even mean?  The beer comes from a land called Sweden, famous for cross country skiing, a better quality of life, and frustrating to assemble furniture.  It’s relatively new brewery (3 years in the making), so I’m anxious to see how it’ll be.  Time for the numbers…

IMG_8716Appearance: Fresh squeezed orange juice cut with a little water.  Very murky, but one of the prettiest double IPAs I’ve seen.

Smell: Tropical fruit, orange juice, a little rubbery, grapefruit.

Taste: First sip tastes like drinking Firestone tires.  That rubbery taste transitions into a really dank hoppy slap that stings that stings the mouth throughout the whole experience.  Those tropical flavors are nowhere to be found other than the aggressiveness of some grapefruit but it’s really a one trick pony.  If finishes ever so sweet, but mainly I would categorize this as bitter and dank.  Not a bad IPA, but certainly not one that I would rank as one of the better ones I’ve had.  I will admit, once you drink more of it it does grow on you… and it’s packaged nicely.  Mouthfeel and carbonation are on point for this DIPA, which only helps the rating.

Overall: B+.  I can’t seem to get over the Rubbery taste I get from this beer, but it’s not too bad for a double IPA.  Talk to Goodyear and see if they can help you with the rubbery odor.
